Goals
Using only white keys, improvise melodies in the RH over a drone in the LH, landing on stable scale degrees in sync with a metronome.
Tips
• The goal is not to play fast, but rather to play consistently and intentionally in resolving unstable stable degrees to stable scale degrees.
• Don’t stop when you make a mistake; just keep playing along with the metronome!
PRACTICE THIS
1. Choose any white note except B as a drone.
2. Set metronome to 80bpm.
3. Play drone in whole notes in the LH.
4. In the RH, create melodies using only white keys, landing on a stable scale degree (target notes 135) whenever LH plays.
5. Increase RH speed from half notes, to quarter notes, to eighth notes.
