Do I need any prior experience to join?
ArtPlay Academy is designed for all skill levels, including complete beginners. Our step-by-step playalong lessons and guided challenges make it easy to start from scratch—no prior knowledge of piano or sheet music is required. You’ll learn by doing, building skills naturally through creative exploration and hands-on practice.
Can I join if I am an intermediate or advanced pianist?
ArtPlay Academy is designed to grow with you, no matter your skill level. Every lesson includes a bonus section with advanced challenges to push your technique further. Plus our creative prompts allow you to explore, improvise, and apply concepts in ways that match your experience level. Whether you’re looking to refine your skills, break free from sheet music, or dive into new styles, you’ll find endless ways to challenge yourself and expand your musical creativity.
Do I need a keyboard? Any other equipment?
To get the most out of ArtPlay Academy, you’ll need a keyboard. We recommend at least 49 keys (4 octaves) so you can comfortably play with both hands.
Other than that, all you need is:
A smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer with internet access
A built-in microphone (or external mic) if you want to use the lesson recorder feature

Even 10 minutes a day is enough to make real progress! Our lessons are designed for busy schedules, offering bite-sized practice plans so you can learn at your own pace, no matter how much time you have.
Besides creating my own music, will I also learn my favorite songs?
While ArtPlay Academy focuses on helping you develop creative freedom, we know that playing songs you love is an important part of the learning process.
As you progress through the game, you’ll earn Notes (our creative currency), which you can use to unlock song tutorials and mini-courses in ArtPlay Library. This means that instead of being locked into a set playlist, you’ll have the freedom to choose the songs that inspire you most.Rather than memorizing songs by rote, our tutorials help you understand how music works—breaking down songs into their essential elements to empower you to and make any song your own—giving you true creative freedom at the piano.
Is ArtPlay Academy for kids?
ArtPlay Academy is designed for learners ages 15 and up. The Journey is self-directed, meaning students will explore lessons, challenges, and creative prompts at their own pace. Our program assumes a level of independence and self-motivation that makes it best suited for teens and adults.
